Thomas sits in his number 12 Nemesis Formula race car at
the Derek Daly Racing Academy just outside Las Vegas, NV. He spent
three days there in August 2002, learning from the best and having a blast
driving at speeds over 100 mph on the 1.8 mile road course. He holds
the honor of being the youngest driver ever to attend/complete the course.
Thomas was twelve, and this course was a 13th birthday present from his
dad. |

Getting ready to run a few laps at the racetrack, Thomas
poses for a quick photo, then climbs into the 135 HP ford powered formula
car. After 3 days of classroom and ontrack training, he was turning
laps in just 93 seconds (only 5 seconds slower than the instructors).
In the class of 6 students, Thomas turned in the 3rd fastest lap time.
Not bad for a 12 year old. |

Gaining speed and shifting the 4 speed gearbox as he enters
the straightway in front of the pit area. It was amazing to see all
of the students grow from novices to race drivers in only 3 days.
My compliments to the Derek Daly Academy, instructors, and staff for a
great race education and a real blast. |

Here's Thomas finishing the number 8 turn just prior to
entering the straightaway. A view of the Las Vegas Speedway is in
the background. Back home in Virginia, Thomas races go karts in the
Restricted Jr. Stock class for RiverNet
Racing. |
