MID-COUNTY VOLUNTEER RESCUE SQUAD
P. O. Box 355
Heathsville, Va. 22473
August 4, 2004 - General Business Meeting - Wednesday night 7:35 pm.
I - Nancy called meeting to order.
II - Secretary's Report
Minutes posted. Dave made a motion to accept the minutes and Roger seconded the motion. They were adopted.
III - Treasurer's Report
Cindi made a motion and Allen seconded it to accept the report. All approved.
IV - Captain's Report
-
35 calls for July, 241 for the year.
-
I Protocol rollout: Regional patient care protocols are complete and will be rolled out this month. Attendance at a rollout session is mandatory for EMT’s and strongly advised for drivers and 3rds. Three sessions will be held at RGH in the coming 2 weeks. There will be 2 sessions in Tappahannock this month.
-
Ambulance patient compartments: Thanks to all who helped with the cleanup detail last month. Unfortunately, the patient compartments are getting grimey again. After you run a call, but before you leave the hospital, please take time to dust off the horizontal surfaces when you clean up the ambulance. Use a towel, then put it in the soiled linen container at the hospital when you empty the trash.
-
NEMT: Provided a draft job description for a full time county EMS Coordinator. Also set in motion planning for a county-wide drill next August. Need 2 volunteers to staff the planning committee.
-
Elder abuse reporting: As of July 1, 2004, EMS providers are required to report suspected elderly abuse to adult protective services and law enforcement. A sheet that described the requirements and the reporting process was given to every member present at the meeting.
-
Recruitment efforts: “Volunteer” page now on the squad’s website. Please look at it and refer people to it. Mike has set up a recruitment page on an RGH website designed especially for the rescue squads. The RGH site's address is http://www.rghsquads.com.
-
Internet access: The squad needs to decide if high-speed internet access at the station would be a worthy expense. Dave will investigate costs and report next month.
-
NHS football standby: Mid-Co. has 4 standbys this fall. Sign-up sheet was circulated.
-
Assistance from Callao VFD: During inclement weather, Callao fire will respond to emergency calls with Mid-Co and will make sure we get back to the main road. They will place a staffed truck at the Mid-Co. Station when deemed necessary.
-
Pediatric bag review after meeting tonight.
- Shirley has requested a 6-month leave-of-absence.
V - Vice-President's Report
VI - 1st Lieutenant's Report
VII - 2nd Lieutenant's Report
VIII - Vehicle Officer's Report
IX - Auxiliary's Report
X - Building Committee Report
XI - President's Report
- Received grant money from a fund established by the employees of Phillip Morris. The award covers half the cost of the new 1st response vehicle the squad is planning to purchase.
- Mid-County will conduct blood pressure checks at the Farmers Market in Heathsville every 3 rd Saturday from 9-1pm. A sign-up sheet was circulated.
XII - Old Business
XIII - New Business
-
We want to thank Allen and Devin for all their services they did for us this summer. We wish them the best in college this year.
-
Cindi made a motion to discuss renovating the squad's highway sign. She proposed simply restoring the plastic that has deteriorated on one side, but the discussion revealed the need to improve the lighting system for the sign, as well as moving the sign or cutting back foliage to make it more visible. We decided to table the motion so Jeff can get more information. He will report next month about cost.
- Cindi also asked the squad to consider installing acoustic ceiling tile in the meeting room. Lively discussion produced no clear direction on the matter.
XIV - Training Committee Report
- Oxygen (no 15 LPM on overhead regulators in units) (how to operate regulators on tanks) next month.
XV - Cadet Report
Present
(15) - Nancy, Cindi, Herb, Jeff, Jean, Christy, Allen, Roger, Dave, Devin, Paul, Garfield, Debra, Arnette, and Rebekah.
Cadets
Cori and Amber.
Excused
(10) Wesley, Michael, Dan G., Ed G., Jim, Ron, Dan T., Shirley, Terry, and Alice.
Adjourned 08:20 pm. Rebekah made a motion and Paul seconded it.
Respectfully submitted,

Rebekah H. Haynie, Secretary
