MID-COUNTY VOLUNTEER RESCUE SQUAD

P. O. Box 355

Heathsville, Va. 22473

January 7, 2004 - General Business Meeting - Wednesday night 7:30pm.

I - Nancy called meeting to order.

II - Secretary's Report

Minutes posted. Garfield made a motion to accept the minutes and Dave seconded the motion. They were adopted.

III - Treasurer's Report

Dave made a motion to accept the report and to accept the 2004 budget. Cindi seconded it. All approved.

IV - Captain's Report

  1. 26 calls for December. 58 calls for the year.
  2. If you want traffic stopped, just ask one of the North'd deputies. Sheriff Middleton has a policy that fire and rescue can request a road closure. State police aren't necessarily part of the policy, however, be sure to approach a deputy.
  3. Volunteers need to clean gutters. Sign up sheet circulating.
  4. MCI Modules I and II training, January 17, Callao VRS, 8:00 am - 5:00pm.
  5. Please keep your speed down when responding to calls. Whenever someone gets pulled over or noticed speeding to a call, I get a phone call from the Sheriff's department.
  6. Thanks to everyone who turned out for the crash on New Year's Eve. We did a good job with difficult conditions. The scene was calm and controlled. The scene lights on #48 and #46 are really great. The only place where improvement is needed is for everybody to learn where equipment is stored in the ambulances. It is always stored in the same place, but it might not be in the packaging you remember. Read labels if you can't find what you are looking for.
  7. Royster-Clark Fertilizer Co. is putting on an open house for fire/rescue to assist us in incident responses to their location. Date is Jan. 29, 7:00pm at the Heathsville office.

  2. By-law changes discussion in Feb. And vote on in March.
  3. We are assessing members' perceptions about the troublesome situation of diminishing manpower to run calls. A questionnaire is being distributed tonight and will be mailed to all members who aren't present tonight. When all questionaires have been returned and a list has been made of all responses, information will be presented to the squad.
  4. Will vote on Christy and Mike Connell in February.
  5. We have received federal grant money through Northumberland County that will allow us to purchase turnout gear more suitable to our needs than that which we now have on hand. The helmets have been ordered and will arrive soon. They will be issued to EMTs, drivers, and thirds who are most likely to be actively involved in patient care on the scenes of motor-vehicle accidents and other incidents involving patient entrapment.
