MID-COUNTY VOLUNTEER RESCUE SQUAD

P. O. Box 355

Heathsville, Va. 22473

July 3, 2003 - General Business Meeting - Wednesday night 7:30pm.

I - Nancy called meeting to order.

II - Secretary's Report

Minutes posted. Paul made a motion to accept the minutes and Dave seconded the motion. They were adopted.

III - Treasurer's Report

Cindi made a motion and Ed. seconded to accept this report. All approved the report. State hasn't given us grant funds which we applied for in January.

IV - Captain's Report

  1. 28 calls for June. 193 calls for the year.

  2. Standbys- July 4th BQS fireworks. The crew is invited to come at 6:00pm for dinner at the BQS clubhouse. Sign-up sheet circulated. Squad picnic July 19th . Need standby crews to bring a unit to Mallard Bay and run calls from there, if any. Sign-up sheet circulated.

  3. Cleanup details. Thanks to everybody who showed up Sunday to clean up the public areas. 4 more to go. Sign-up sheet circulated.

  4. Venoscope - at Dave's initiative, the squad has purchased a device to help ALS providers find veins for starting IVs. The instrument is in the IV bag on #46. If we like it well enough, we will buy another on for #48.

  5. 1st response vehicle. We need volunteers to sit on a 3-person committee to identify requirements for a vehicle that will replace #41. Sign-up sheet circulated.

  6. Dispatch- it would help dispatch if, when the squad leaves the station on a call, the driver reports back on the address that you are going to, as in "Unit #46 responding to 1087 Light Street."

  7. NEMT meeting. North'd Emergency Management Team met on June 25th. Assessment is being conducted by the Northern Neck Regional Planning Commission and addresses procedures and resources in place for fire, EMS, law enforcement, and government. The bottom line is that North'd is badly prepared now. The assessment will help the planning commission identify where the weaknesses are and use the information to beef up our emergency strategy. Funding will likely be available from FEMA as a result of the assessment.

  8. Medevac- if we request Medevac for emergency call the dispatchers will call services in a default order, unless if we request a specific medevac service up front : 1- MCV ("Life EVAC")
    2 - Maryland State Police
    3 - INOVA ( Fairfax Hospital)
    4 - Virginia State Police
    5 - Nightingale (lower peninsula)

V - Vice-President's Report

  • None.

VI - 1st Lieutenant's Report

  • All radios, HEAR systems and COR radios working. One of the decomissioned COR radios (equipped with 16 channels) will be installed in #41.

VII - 2nd Lieutenant's Report

  • None.

VIII - Vehicle Officer's Report

  • Lettering on #46 still being worked on

IX - Auxiliary's Report

  • Lawn mower race to be held on Callao Day Aug. 16th.

X - Building Committee Report

  • Vinyl flooring and carpet to be installed by the end of July.

XI - President's Report

  1. Picnic at Mallard Bay on July 19th from noon until...

  2. Thank you note from Amber for graduation gift, and from the late T. Wilmer Lewis family.

XII - Old Business

  1. Paul to get new tables for the squad.

  2. The committee will schedule a detail to fence off the septic fiel and will try to get a power auger from Clegg's Diesel to make the job easier.

XIII - New Business

  1. Planning an open house in October.

  2. Allen made a motion and Shirley seconded it to use the money from old #46 to upgrade lights on #48. (Roughly $4,000.00).

  3. Citizens from far-flung areas of the county have approach the squad with a proposal to house (on a temporary basis) a fire pumper unit. They are proposing this action because the existing fire squads in the county show little interest in providing closer apparatus to the areas down Walnut Point Road and down Courthouse Road. The temporary part of the proposal means until its proponents procure property and construct a station of their own to house it. Ed Gotthardt made a motion and Devin seconded the motion to house a fire unit temporarily at Mid-Co. building. As a result, the President will draw up an agreement that specifies the squad's responsibilities for insuring, staffing, maintaining, and operating the apparatus, as well as stating limits on the amount of time such a vehicle could be housed at our station.
