Local Young Farmers
 
The local Young Farmers is an adult education organization offered through the local Agriculture Department at Northumberland High School . Members are involved in Agriculture production or some field of Agribusiness. The Young Farmers also offer programs on the State and National levels. 
 
Awards and Activities:  

The local Young Farmers sponsor a Corn Growing Contest, with awards being presented at a banquet sponsored by the Bank Of Northumberland. Numerous local businesses present prizes to the contestants. They also sponsor the local cow patty contest in cooperation with the NHS FFA Alumni, and sponsor two $1000 scholarships, to  local students. This year the Northumberland Young Farmers received several awards at the State Convention which included:

Outstanding Agribusinessman in the Area -- Craig Brann 
Diversification in Agriculture Award -- David Dunaway, Area winner 
Agriculture Stewardship Award -- Mark Swann -- State Winner 
Corn Growing Contest -- Luther Welch -- State Winner 
Corn Growing Contest -- Shirley Powell -- 2nd place in the state
Soybean Growing Contest -- Timmy Self -- State Winner  
Association Contest -- The Northumberland Young Farmers were named as 2nd best Chapter in the State 
Local Scholarship Winners: 
Levi Walker:  $1000 Northumberland YF Scholarship 
Dwight Forrester:  $1000 Colonial Farm Credit Endowment Sponsored By North'd YF, North'd FFA Alumni and North'd FFA
