What is cross-weight? This is a term you will hear quite often when conversation turns to LTO chassis setup. When you scale your kart, each corner of the kart has an individual weight. If you add the Left rear and Right front together, and divide it by the total kart and driver weight, the answer is Cross weight. It is expressed as a percentage, and will generally be in the 50% to 58% range.

What is stagger? Stagger is the difference in circumference between the left and right side tires of the kart. Since a kart has a solid rear axle, and a Speedway kart only turns left, a lot of corner speed can be gained by having the right rear tire somewhat larger in circumference than the left rear tire. If the right is 1/2" larger in circumference than the left, your kart has 1/2" of stagger. The correct amount of stagger will vary from track to track, and kart to kart.
